Getting old can seem daunting, having to face all the health issues with aging. Such issues can be chronic health conditions, for example heart diseases, stroke, cancer and diabetes, cognitive health issues, for example loss of memory and dementia, mental health problems like depression, higher risks of physical injury as aging causes bones to shrink and muscle to lose strength and flexibility, thus seniors are more susceptible to losing balance, bruising and fracturing a bone. Other issues can be sensory impairments such as vision and hearing, incontinence and constipation.
In TCM classics, it mentions that aging starts as early as 20s for women and 30s for men. However, it also says that aging can slow down or even stop at the start of health maintenance with TCM treatment modalities such as acupuncture, herbs etc. Aging as a matter of fact is the process of oxidation and dying off of cells and tissues in the body faster than the rate of cells renewal. Acupuncture and TCM treatment modalities have ways to upkeep the circulation and metabolism of the body, re nourishing and renewing the cells and tissues of the body at a fast rate, hence achieving the effect of anti aging.
Even for those who are late to start their health maintenance with TCM, the effects and problems arisen due to aging as mentioned above can still be managed with the TCM treatment modalities. As we know, it is always better to be late than never.
