Restless leg syndrome (RLS) is also known as the Willis-Ekbom disease. It is a nervous system disorder that causes an irresistible urge for the legs to move. In Western Medicine, the treatment of Restless Leg Syndrome is usually with Pramipexole, Ropinirole, Rotigotine, Gabapentin but the side effects can be intensive with sleepiness, dizziness problems and progressive loss of response for some.

Conclusion:  According to this meta-analysis, acupuncture either alone or in combination with other related therapies is an effective treatment option for Restless Leg Syndrome. Cure rate significantly differed between acupuncture and non-acupuncture therapies (48% vs. 22%).

 

Conclusion: Acupuncture plus a low dose of gabapentin (300 mg/d) is clinically useful in the treatment of Restless Leg Syndrome during 8 weeks follow up, and also has an additive therapeutic effect over gabapentin alone in patients with Restless Leg Syndrome.
