Inner Practice Series: Always a Brand New Moment

When I meet my patients or friends, we always talked about how the past week was, how the day went.

It dawned on me that a lot of times, people are stuck in their old stories and may actually enjoy reliving them, be it good or bad. We are creatures of habits. We are creatures of identities. Take away that and we crumble to feel lost like a wandering soul. So we attach ourselves to old stories, old identities, just so to make us feel safe and secure, that we have something to hang on to. Even if the stories and identities are old, worn out, no longer serve and even to the point of abusive.

The fact is each moment is brand new. The you that have taken this next breath is literally a different person one breath before. And with each brand new moment, it offers a chance of creation. For something different, something new, something beautiful. The only person that restrict yourself to break through is simply you.

Practice: Sit down and close your eyes. Take deep breaths. With every breath, slowly become aware of how your body changes, your thoughts changes. Staying just in the present and recognize the power you have to change yourself internally, one breath at a time, one moment at a time. Open your eyes and see how the internal changes reflect onto your external world.
