Placenta was first written by the Chinese Physician Li Shizhen in the 1500’s when he compiled the first Materia Medica. Dried placenta has been used widely ever since for many different symptoms.

The Chinese name is called 紫河车 (Zi He Che).

Placenta ‘augments the Essence’ in TCM.  In other words, placenta gives greater/stronger the vital force of an individual.

It is usually consumed in a powdered form. But fresh options are out there too, where the fresh placenta is washed and made into a soup. The good quality placenta is in good shape and purplish red.
