TCM for Women’s Health
As women, we go through stages of life and each stage will involve a significant level of fluctuation in hormones and bodily changes. During the different stages, a certain degree of physical or even emotional and mental discomfort will be experienced by women if their bodies are not well prepared for the changes.
The less balanced their bodily systems are to start with, the more discomfort and uneasiness they will feel, some will be so bad that they cannot function properly and normally on a daily basis. Nevertheless, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers solutions to manage the fluctuations and allow women to move through the life stages of the women smoothly and gracefully.
1. Menstrual Issues
During menstruations, some women may experience bad cramps and headaches or other premenstrual symptoms. These symptoms are mostly related to poor blood circulation in the reproductive systems, either due to coldness or simply blood stagnations. All these can be resolved with acupuncture and other TCM treatment methods which encourage the blood to flow more freely and regulate the menstrual cycles.
2. Menopause and perimenopause
Menopausal symptoms can include hot flushes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, heart palpitations, anxiety and insomnia. Along with Chinese herbs, acupuncture offers a safe and natural solution to the hormonal fluctuations all women experience.
3. Endometriosis, cysts and fibroids
Endometriosis, cysts and fibroids are basically aggregates of blood, lymph and qi as a result of their poor flow in the womb and ovaries. By restoring the flow to blood and Qi and relieving any blockages, acupuncture and herbs can address the heavy bleeding, backache, severe cramping and abdominal pain and swelling that often accompany endometriosis, cysts and fibroids.
Endometriosis and an irregular menstrual cycle are both key contributors in women’s infertility. Acupuncture treatments and other TCM treatment modalities direct blood flow to the reproductive organs and help regulate menstrual cycles which are required to ensure the womb is ready for implantation and birth.
5) Pregnancy and postpartum support
Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments can ease the low back and pelvic discomfort related to pregnancy, as well as the morning sickness. After delivery, many women find acupuncture treatments essential for rebuilding their Qi and blood, increasing milk supply, and dealing with postpartum depression.
