Today is 8 November 2023.

It is the start of Lidong (立冬) which signifies the onset of winter. It also marks the crucial shift in weather and climate patterns across the northern hemisphere.

Most importantly Lidong represents the official onset of Period 9. Read more about What is Period 9 here.

What to do for Lidong and Start of Period 9

Practice Gratitude

The transition into Winter reflects a period of contemplation and preparation for the coming year. In dynastic China, Lidong also marked the climax of both autumn harvest and agricultural activities for the year, believed by people to be a result of ancestral blessings. Chinese emperors would observe a three-day fast in anticipation of the ceremonial rites in celebration of Lidong.

Practice gratitude and giving thanks to what you already have during this period.

Meditate

The winter season corresponds with the element of Water, embodying qualities of adaptability, fluidity, and intuition. Lidong which also represents the start of Period 9 signifies the marked shift in energy in the world for the next 20 years.

Meditate and reflect more on what to let go and what to welcome in for the next two decades of your life.

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine

As we transit into Winter, organs related to the water element such as kidneys, urinary bladder, adrenal glands should be given more care and health maintenance.

At the same time, the start of Period 9 means organs such as heart, small intestine, eyes and tongue may also be more susceptible to imbalance.

Doing acupuncture will maintain the health and well-being of the organs mentioned above and rebalance the energy flowing through them to ensure the whole body is functioning at its most balance state.

Regularly taking herbal medicines and practicing other treatment modalities in Traditional Chinese Medicine such as cupping and moxibustion will also help to upkeep the health during this period. Be sure to approach a professional Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor to have these practices done for you in the right way.

Fengshui

Lidong which is the beginning of winter is also a highly favourable period for activating the Water Stars within one’s home.

In Feng Shui, Water Stars hold a prominent role in governing an individual’s wealth, opportunities, and intuition. When harnessed effectively, these auspicious stars have the potential to usher in financial abundance and promote success in both personal and professional endeavours.

Get in touch with a Fengshui practitioner to seek help in having advice in how to harness the energy and activate your Water Stars in your home.
