Depression and Acupuncture: A New Hope of Relief

One of the common mental health problem in today’s society is depression. Globally, it is estimated that 5.0% of adults suffer from depression. Putting into perspective, approximately 280 million people in the word have depression.

Depression is different from usual mood fluctuations and short-lived emotional responses to challenges in everyday life. Depression manifests in feelings of emptiness, deep sadness or misery, loss of hope, and even thoughts of suicide.

Depression can come from a complex mix of social, psychological, and biological factors. People who have gone through adverse life events such as unemployment, bereavement, or other traumatic events are more likely to develop depression. Depression can, in turn, lead to more stress and dysfunction and worsen the affected person’s life situation and the depression itself.

Antidepressants may be the fast solution to uplift one chemically and artificially from a depressive state, but the side effects and tolerance development to the drugs can outweigh the short term superficial bandaid benefits. Ultimately, many patients turn to complementary and alternative medicines, of which acupuncture is the most highly sought after for help.

As mentioned in my previous blog article on the Scientific proof of how your body react to acupuncture for depression, regular frequent sessions of Acupuncture will reduce and treat Depression. These are backed with scientific researches.

Acupuncture changes the brain chemical levels naturally

The three main neurotransmitters that are related to depression are dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin. These three neurotransmitters help to create the positive feelings and therefore, when there is a reduced amount of such natural chemicals in the brain, the person will often feel low spirited.

Acupuncture helps to increase these ‘feel good’ neurotransmitters naturally, thereby uplifting the mood of the person without introduction of chemical drugs. Read more about Acupuncture for Pineal Gland here.

Acupuncture uplifts and increases energy

Acupuncture is well known to help with fatigue, and it does so by giving energy to a person.
