Inner Practice: Play the Fool

When I started to make my videos, I had no idea what I was doing. My first video took me almost 3 hours to make and post. I felt so stupid and foolish and what a waste of time. Yet as time went by, I fell in love with making my productions and usually the ideas are influenced by the place I was at, the people I met, the songs I heard and the downloads I got at the moment. Everything just fell into place to give birth to that one production. Sometimes now, one production could be done within minutes if I was in the flow. As a matter of fact, I always felt something shifted within me after creating one production.

Many may frown upon the fact that I am a doctor and making a fool of myself.

But today, I encourage you to play the Fool.

We know this.

The time of our life is so short.

And how are we spending it?

Are we spending it doing what is important to us?

Most of us not.

It’s hard.

Because the pull of habit is so huge.

And that’s what makes children so beautifully creative, because they don’t have any habits. And they don’t care if they are any good or not.

They are not building a sandcastle while contemplating, “I think I am going to be a really good sandcastle builder.”

They just throw themselves at whatever project you put in front of them- dancing, doing a painting, building something, any opportunity they have, they try to use it to impress upon you their individuality.

It’s just so simple, so beautiful.

When we talk about creativity, it’s worrying to think of it as a concept that is just nice, warm or something pleasant.

It is not.

Creativity is vital.

It’s the way we heal each other.

In singing our song, in telling our story, in inviting you to say, “Listen to me and I’ll listen to you.” When we do that, we start a dialogue. And when we do that, healing happens. We come out of our corners and we start to witness each other’s common humanity.

And when we indeed do that, really good things happen.

So if we want to help our community, if we want to help our family, if we want to help our friends,

we have to express ourselves.

And to express ourselves, we have to know ourselves.

And it is actually super easy.

We just have to follow our love.

There is absolutely no path till we walk it.

And we have to be willing to play the Fool.

In Tarot, the Fool is card zero, representing the end and the beginning. The Fool in the cards is usually seen as a newly incarnated soul, completely accepting, innocent, a blank state, free of ideas imposed by others. The Fool has no self interest to be a threat and has only the natural curiosity and willingness to be open to ideas and concepts.

So don’t read the book that you should read. Read the book you want to read.

Don’t listen to the music that you used to like, take some time to listen to new music.

Take some time to talk to somebody that you don’t normally talk to.

I guarantee if you do that you will feel foolish.

That’s the point.

Play the Fool.
