Inner Practice: Strength of Patience

We are so used to this instant world.

In this instant world, we need everything instant.

In this instant world, it is supposed to build up to give you everything instantly. You can take something instantly, you can know about something instantly, you can download something instantly.

We switch on our phones and social media everyday and we are bombarded with advertisements and “solutions” that claim to be able to get that money, that body, that partner, that relationship instantaneously it is like magic.

And the quick fixes are indeed magical. Because just like magic, they are not real.

In reality, things are not instant.

Things take time to work out.

Things take time to become better.

Things take time to be successful.

Especially in my clinical experiences, people are so used to thinking that whenever they fall sick, they can reach out to that magic pill that has the power to rectify and cure everything overnight. People are so used to believing that there is a miracle elixir that can lift off all anxiety and depression immediately and they got hooked to it so much that even when they do not work or that they are creating more problems than solving them, people still believe that they will need higher doses to make it work right on the spot.

Successfulness takes time.

Happiness takes time.

Peacefulness takes time.

Health takes time.

Relationships to build takes time.

Nothing is instant in real life.

You have to wait, you have to be patient.

Just like other virtues of humanity, there is strength in patience. Strength to build something great, strength to heal something broken, strength to elevate you to a better state.

Strength for the real magic to happen.

If not why there is a saying,

Good things always come to those who wait.

On a side note, a thought just popped in as I was writing this.

People say acupuncture and holistic medicine is a placebo. It is hocus pocus. It is voodoo. It is magic.

But this magic is claimed by the pills out there that say they will give you instant results. On the contrary, traditional medicines take time to work.

So which is magic now? Which is real?
