Due to the hormones that the thyroid gland produces, it influences almost all of the metabolic processes in the body. The most common thyroid problems involve abnormal production of thyroid hormones and autoimmune disorder of the thyroid gland itself.

Too much thyroid hormone can cause hyperthyroidism, which can accelerate the body’s metabolism and cause unintentional weight loss and a rapid or irregular heartbeat.  Hypothyroidism in contrast stems from an underproduction of thyroid hormones and since the body’s energy production requires certain amounts of thyroid hormones, a drop in the thyroid hormones can lead to low energy levels, coldness, dry skin, depression, weight gain. The common autoimmune disease at the thyroid is Hashimoto thyroiditis which similarly can present itself in all the symptoms shown in hypothyroidism and on top of it infertility, enlarged thyroid gland or goitre.

Hormonal based illnesses are best treated with Acupuncture due to the fact that in TCM theories, there are actually acupoints that work on hormonal balancing without adding burden to the body with drugs and medication.

As the hormone system is an intricate and delicate system which balance can be easily tipped simply with addition or reduction in one hormone in the body, not to say with synthetic hormone pills and drugs, I can only say that the existence of Acupuncture is God-send to help with all kinds of hormonal imbalance issues. In this blog post, I am just going to emphasize on thyroid.

The scientific proofs of how acupuncture can help with thyroid issues are shown below which again represents the tip of a mountain.
