Men's Health Series: Suppression of Ejaculation, Aye or Nay?

In my previous blog post on Masturbation, Aye or Nay, I have mentioned that the act of frequent masturbation and expending the semen lightly can weaken and damage a man’s health. This is because, indeed, “a drop of sperm is worth 10 drops of blood”.

However in this blog post, we will explore whether suppression of ejaculation is encouraged or discouraged from a Western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine point of view.

Western Medicine View on Suppression of Ejaculation

Ejaculation suppression can refer to intentionally delaying orgasm (stamina or edging) or a part of semen retention.

Semen retention refers to when a person intentionally avoids ejaculating. A person can do this by abstaining from any sexual activity, stopping before the point of ejaculation, or teaching themselves to orgasm without ejaculating.

There is said to be some possible benefits of not ejaculating which may include allowing people to experience more intense orgasms, improve sperm quality and therefore increase fertility. However, there has been limited and inconclusive research into this.

Nonetheless, consciously trying to physically block ejaculation at the last second is strongly advised against, as it can cause pelvic pain, nerve irritation, and damage sexual function.

Traditional Chinese Medicine View on Suppression of Ejaculation

The idea for a man to conserve his semen through never ejaculating is not the true meaning. In the Plain Girl Classic it clearly states that if a man prevents his ejaculation(s) he can cure and prevent certain illnesses within his body and even achieve immortality. There is a list in this classic that describes the benefits of successively preventing up to ten ejaculations during one love making session. During these ten successive preventions of his ejaculations he is in essence performing what is called “gathering and inducing female sexual energy (ching).”

However, it is never advised in the Plain Girl Classic that a man should forgo ejaculation altogether, just that he should first seek to prevent ejaculation from occurring haphazardly and frequently. When a female is working with her sexual partner she will comply with this need and help the male prevent his ejaculation the number of times needed, but after that will cause him to ejaculate for her needs as well.

Biologically, it is not healthy for a male or female not to ejaculate. Long-term celibacy can cause intestinal, bladder, and kidney disorders.

While on this subject it should be explained that the process for preventing ejaculation in males is not to wait until that moment when the semen is already in the shaft of the penis, rather it is at that first moment when a man feels with increased stimulation he could momentarily ejaculate, and the semen is still inside the testes. To wait until the very last pending moment can cause injury to the dorsal arteries, urethra, prostrate, and especially the spermatic cord.

Indeed, to maintain optimum mental and physical health a male must ejaculate during his vital sexual years.
